The Brat Review

Charli xcx BRAT2024 Dance Pop/EDM/House

Charli XCX's 6th studio album, "Brat," was highly anticipated for me, as I have been a fan since her release of "How I'm Feeling Now" in 2020. The lead single "Von Dutch" seemed to move away from the more straightforward pop appeal of her previous record, "Crash," in favour of EDM/House influences. The production on "Brat" is immaculate, with A.G. Cook back working with Charli for this record. While this album leans away from some of her more pop-driven tracks, it is filled with the catchiest songs she's ever written, particularly on tracks such as "Talk Talk," "Von Dutch," "Apple," and "365."

A complaint is that some songs seem slightly underdeveloped. Even if it was an artistic choice, having "I might say something stupid" cut off after only 1:49 is a complete tragedy, as I adore the vocal timbre mixed with the moody synths. This type of electropop ballad is something I desperately hope Charli chooses to explore more in the future. Certain tracks also like "I think about it all the time" I do not go back to often. If I was also able to piece together my own remix album to include the Lorde remix of "Girl..." and the Robyn and Yung Lean remix of 360 the album would be elevated even higher maybe an 90-95
